Just FYI, health has not regenerated from eating in combat at least since release.  It's the same thing that prevents troll's blood potions of any type from functioning in combat.

However, oddly enough, the health regen bonus after eating poached sunscale salmon does actually function during combat. Or at least it used to. I know I've seen the little 6 pop up on my bar while I was fighting and not just after the fight is over. I don't remember looking for it last night though while in MC so I don't know for sure if it does still work in combat or not.
