Speaking of your thesis.
It occured to me that internet slang is remarkably parallel to the CB radio slang which was popular in America in the late 70s/early 80s in many ways.
It was a slang that grew out of a new communication medium and also a medium that offered a modest annonymity.
It interesting that over the long term it had almost no effect on English despite being popular for a short period especially among kids.
It was more a fad than anything else.
