PacMacro

1) Create costumes
2) Write software
3) Plot out map
4) ???
5) Hilarity!

What is PacMacro? In a nutshell, it's Pacman, substituting the characters with real people, and the game board with an urban grid.

Following in the footsteps of Pac Manhattan, a group of us from the School of Computing Science at Simon Fraser University, British Columbia, will soon be conducting our very own game of PacMacro -- although only a trial-run -- in downtown Vancouver.

We've just completed the costume phase of the plan, and had great fun confusing innocent bystanders in randomly chosen locations of gathering.

Playtest #1 of PacVan will occur, weather permitting, on Saturday, August 28th. If you're in the area, just remember that those weird people in colourful sheets running after a guy wearing a big yellow circle are supposed to be there. ;)

That sounds like fun! I saw an article about PacManhattan and the pictures were great.

Just be careful, because it looks like the PacManhattan people get their merchandise from the same place that diabloii.net gets theirs.
Why can't we all just get along

Despite some light rain (well, it is Vancouver...) PacVan #1 went well. Although short one ghost, and having some problems with the software that had to be fixed mid-game, we had great fun, not to mention a lot of strange looks in our direction.

Pictures of the event, as well as preperation, are avaliable here. (Please be gentle on our little server ;))

Yes, the colours for the ghosts are a little off. We didn't have time to fix it.

Here's some of our favourites:

As long as you don't wear too much yellow, you should be fine. ;)

We just had another successful run on Labour Day.

There were some issues with a lacking of cellphones which delayed the game for quite some time, but once it got rolling, things went quite smoothly. The weather was also beautiful.

Compared to the first run, more people stopped by, or at least shouted from their vechicles to find out what the heck we were doing. There were apparently a few girls who wanted to join in on the fun as well, although a little too late.

We're defenitely going to be doing more of this.
