Wow that is very nice. I have some friends doing a postdoc there now. I graduated in organimetallic chemistry then went on to materials science/nanotech for a PhD.
Anyway, without being rude.....I don't see what a law degree would add to a PhD from berkeley.
I think that for working at a company another degree like law or an MBA should not give you a huge advantage. With a chemistry PhD you will have no problem going to a consultant firm or a multinational where you can as much or as little science as you want yourself.

Of course, but if a big company wants you they just train you for this. The other way around is never happening (so you are a good lawyer....we pay for you to get a PhD in chemistry)

The money I saved for the past 15 years for my kids' college has been evaporating at a disgusting rate.
Daughter quit UT, but is living at home so that damage has been mitigated. Still going to college locally.
Son wants to go to pre med at Texas A & M. This is gonna be fun.
Both my 401k's are in a shambles.
On my third job since I retired from the navy, have not enjoyed any of them.
Money is OK for now. The economic brakes hit our area just as a few growth areas were looking promising. It's now in stasis.
As to a different fund I had as a contingency. it too took a face shot, though not as bad.
I stopped travelling, but I had lost interest in that a while back.
My brothers and sister are all OK, my ono siste in law who I worry about is fine, at the moment.
Can't sell the house, as our market was never strong. It's worse now.
So, I am trapped at the moment, but I have a job and a well stocked liquor cabinet.

Vancouver, Canada. No particular specialisation - I just took courses that looked interesting until I was two dozen credit hours over what I needed. I will probably end up getting a nice "Concentration in Multimedia, Computer Graphics, and Theoretical Computing" on my diploma. And a math minor.
The co-op/intern job market seems to have recovered, at least...

Is there much drift of Tech demand up from Redmond?

Some, Microsoft is still hiring, given that they have an intentional turnover of some % of their developers, I think, but has the luxury of being very, very picky.
