Wailing Caverns - Jarulf - 05-06-2004 I just turned 18 (in levels) and hopefully I will be up to 20 pretty soon (read this weekend) as I already collected several quest rewards which got me half way to 19 and have a few easy ones to do next. So I thought it might be good to plan, finally, for the Wailing Caverns (spelling?) I tried them once as Night Elf last push together with a mage, but unfortunately I was to low level and together we could hardly get through the first caves. I have heard there are at least 6 quests (all elite?) involving the caves. Are there more? And were to get them? From what I know: 2 quests from the tauren and night elf in the cave just above the entrance. 1 quest from Rachet village (spelling?) from the guy on the shore beside the boat. 1 quest from the sequence of quests dealing with the bubbles in the oasis (I am currently in Thunder Bluff with them but they seem to point to the caves. I have a feeling I have seen one more quest for the caves in Cross Roads or somewhere else that I canât recall. None of the above seems to deal with killing the various bosses though, and I heard there are several for different quests. So anyone have some more information on it? Wailing Caverns - Nystul - 05-06-2004 From my memory, I've seen 6 WC quests: -"Trouble at the Docks" from the guy on the dock in Ratchet. -"Smart Drinks" from Mizzymix in Ratchet. You must complete the prior drink quest, collecting raptor horns, in order to get this one. - 2 quests directly from the upper cave of the Wailing Caverns that you mentioned. - 2 quests which I think are both from the Pools of Vision in Thunderbluff. One of these might be a continuation of the Crossroads quest line you mentioned. The other is a quest to gather a special type of herb from the Wailing Caverns, so it is probably only available if you have the herbalism skill. You can actually finish a few of these quests without ever going into the instanced dungeon. But two of the quests (the main one from Thunderbluff and one from WC itself) are particularly hard to complete, and I have not finished them yet. One of them requires you to defeat 4 leaders spread out inside the instance. To do this in one trip, you basically have to clear the entire instance, and it takes several hours to do that with a good party. Do it when you have a pretty good chunk of time available, and bring a balanced party of 4 or 5 people, whether they are Lurkers or not. It's a lot of fun, whether you finish or not :) Wailing Caverns - DeeBye - 05-06-2004 Nystul,May 6 2004, 11:28 AM Wrote:The other is a quest to gather a special type of herb from the Wailing Caverns, so it is probably only available if you have the herbalism skill.I have that quest, and I don't have Herbalism as a skill. Wailing Caverns - Jarulf - 05-07-2004 Ahh, yes, The Pool of wisdom, forgot that one. I think there is only one quest from there though, and yes, no need for Herbalism. I think it is similar to the quests when you collect mushrooms around the oasis or at Darkshore when you go to a cave to collect mushrooms. Neither require herbalism. On the other hand, there is a quest in Ratchet that do require herbalism. It will, when you pick normal herbs at times give the special root you look for. Similarly to the quest from Cross Roads were you need 15 gems of a sort that you occasionally get when mining normally. The quest of the oasis never bring you to the Pool of Vision though. One speak with two different people on the Elder Raise and after that have a few people to kill (in Wailing Caverns I assume). Seems we have 6 pinpointed quests so far though, perhaps there are some more though, who knows. The Barrens seems virtually stuffed with quests in its two towns (and some in small huts spread out and so on). Perhaps there is even quests from other areas that are concluded in The Barrens or Wailing Caverns. Wailing Caverns - Nystul - 05-07-2004 Ah, my memory was a bit foggy on those. On a side note, you mentioned the root samples quest from Ratchet. Have you found any of those root samples, or know someone who did, in this push? I abandoned that quest because I wasn't finding any samples at all, and neither were any of the other Lurkers I had asked about it. Wailing Caverns - Jarulf - 05-07-2004 I have only made that quest in the previous push, not in this one. I recall that basically I got a root sample together with each other herb I collected. So it was a quite quick quest to commplete. Perhaps they have just made it much more rare. The one were I have to find those red gems mining, I only got a few every now and then (then suddenly one single tin vein gave me 7 I think, I got 3,2,0,2 with each mining. Quite amazing. Still lack 3 gems I think. Wailing Caverns - DeeBye - 05-07-2004 Nystul,May 7 2004, 05:14 AM Wrote:Ah, my memory was a bit foggy on those. Wailing Caverns - Ruvanal - 05-07-2004 I have to agree with the root sample quest not working in this push. I had herbalism before getting the quest and so far have gathered well over 100 herbs int he barrens from the north end down to just short of the where those nasty insects are at and have as yet to get a single root sample. Similarly to the quest from Cross Roads were you need 15 gems of a sort that you occasionally get when mining normally. The gems are Bloodstones and are a quest only item drop. There are two ways to get them mining (only the viens next to the giant bramble thorns) and killing the quill boars in the southern region of the Barrens. The quest actually implies that you should be second method with only a minor hint that it can be accomplished by the first method. The one were I have to find those red gems mining, I only got a few every now and then (then suddenly one single tin vein gave me 7 I think, I got 3,2,0,2 with each mining. Quite amazing. Still lack 3 gems I think. You must have finally did the mining at one of the ore viens in a quill boar camp. I was getting an average of 3-4 Bloodstones per vien when I mined at these locations. Getting them from the quill boars themselves is I believe at the rate of one per when they drop. No idea on how frequently they drop from those quill boars though since I picked up my entire supply early at the easy to get to quill boar camps just north east of Crossroads. Wailing Caverns - MongoJerry - 05-07-2004 There is also one last quest that you get in the caverns themselves, although I have never been able to finish it. If you manage to kill all four named bosses in the same instance, then you can return to the guy who greets you at the start of the instance and get some sort of escort quest. I understand that you escort him to some alter that's not too far away. However, the WC are so huge, I've never managed to actually kill all four bosses in one sitting (or without server crashes), so I've never done this quest myself. |
