GEM now the official Avarice Alliance chat mod - Kevin - 12-28-2005

Effective now, GEM is the official cross-guild communication add-on for Avarice on Stormrage.

What's this mean?

If you want to continue using Guilded, you're certainly free to do so; however, be aware that Avarice leadership most likely will not be in that chat channel anymore after this week.

At some point in the near future, GEM will take over as the sign-up mechanism for Avarice raids, supplanting the message boards. While it's probable that we won't require you to be running GEM in order to raid, if you're not running it you would be responsible for finding out when raids are and contacting the raid leader to express interest. This is not a required mod but we strongly reccomend it not only to organize but to help make this a stronger community.

GEM SETUP

Download the latest version from curse-gaming. Upon opening the zip file, there will be a folder named GuildEventManager2. Place this folder in [drive]:/world of warcraft/interface/addons. For a clean install, please do this while not logged into WOW.

Once you log in, there will be a new icon on the circumference of your mini-map. Click it, then select the options tab. Under "channel name," enter avevents. Under "channel alias," enter whatever you wish Avarice chat to be prefixed with. Under "slash command," enter an unused short alias (for instance, "av" without the quotes) which you'll use just like you use /g for guild chat. Under comment, it would be a good idea to enter the name everyone commonly knows you by (forum name or whatnot). Then click accept. You will then be joined to the Avarice channel. You'll need to do this for each character you want to subscribe to the channel.

Finally GEM uses your local clock for the time. In order to have events display in server time you will need to set your server offset. For those of you in Eastern time this is not a problem since the server is eastern time as well. For those in other timezones it is. You need to add or subtract from you local time to get it to equal server time. So for people in Central time you need to set the offset to 1. Pacific time would need to set it to 3. Those in Dublin -5 (I think), etc.

RAID SIGNUPS

At present, we're still using the Carpe Aurum boards for signups. We have no timetable yet for switching to in-game invitations. However, if an event is already listed in GEM and you haven't yet signed up on the boards, you are encouraged to sign up both on the boards and within GEM (by selecting the event, then selecting your character from the drop-down at the bottom of the screen and clicking "Subscribe").

If you're trying to put together other instance runs, we also encourage you to set up an event in GEM on the "New" tab. The interface is fairly self-explanatory, and has live help links (a bracketed question mark).
