Blizzard's background downloader - Jarulf - 03-30-2006
Appearantly Blizzard has with the latest patch added an (undocumented?) downloader that works in the background downloading stuff (seems like patches in advance or stuff like that). Here is a post on their technical forum if you need/want to disable it for any reason:

I do not recall reading that they were installing it in the 1st place. Perhaps it was hidden deep within the new EULA. Or perhaps, to be generous, I just missed the announcement.

If you realy must, simply delete both the downloader and the background downloader from the WoW, and you should have no problems. Yes it's silly that their own program cannot disable itself, but that does not surprise me.
