It's time to Wiki the Lounge, yo. - Premezilla - 04-21-2006 I need to create a web page for school, and I thought I'd write up a Wikipedia article instead. While browsing Wikipedia the other day when I noticed that there are no articles up for the Lurker Lounge. Being the studious scholar I am, I took it upon myself to present this idea to you all, my fellow LL'ers. Are any of you interested in getting the Lurker Lounge onto Wikipedia? I'd help write the article, but I thought it'd be more appropriate if it was created not by one person, but by the collective efforts of the users that make it go. (I also have no idea as to the history of the LL, so I needed to check in here first.) That being said, I thought this would be a good place to organize information on the Lounge, so that the eventual article is as close to perfection as possible. Who's with me? *Edit* This doesn't have to be the complete history of the Lounge. Just some major dates, a brief explanation of, and maybe the address to the LL. The deadline is sometime before summer. It's time to Wiki the Lounge, yo. - ShadowHM - 04-21-2006 I suggest you ask Bolty first if he likes the notion of the Lurker Lounge being in Wikipedia. He spent quite some time trying not to let his site be found. We are all just his guests, here. It's time to Wiki the Lounge, yo. - [wcip]Angel - 04-21-2006 I am currently in the end-stage of a Master's degree thesis. I'm writing about chatting on gaming message boards, specifically the Lurker Lounge and The Elder Scrolls forums. When I finish my thesis in about 2 weeks time, I am going to ask every participant from the Lurker Lounge and The Elder Scrolls forums if they would mind if it was made available on the Internet (no huge publication-thing, I just want to be able to send a copy to all my participants). If they all agree, I'm sure the Wiki could link to my thesis. (Off course, with Bolty's approval of the whole thing. Nothing should be done without his "okay" :)) It's time to Wiki the Lounge, yo. - Taem - 04-21-2006 [wcip]Angel,Apr 21 2006, 04:15 AM Wrote:I am currently in the end-stage of a Master's degree thesis. I think everyones biggest fear is the servers will get overwhelmed (like that one time ages ago) and the host will eventually drop the lounge from his/her server (like last time). I don't know much about the current server situation, but sometimes too much publicity can be a bad thing. I don't know much about the current server situation, but sometimes too much publicity can be a bad thing. I don't see how creating a Wikipedia entry is asking for publicity. No one will find it there unless they actively look for it, or stumble across a link from a similar-themed Wikipedia entry. I really like the concept of Wikipedia, and think it would be a great idea to submit and help edit an article about the Lurker Lounge there. It's time to Wiki the Lounge, yo. - Bolty - 04-22-2006 I have no qualms about that...as has been said, if it's on Wikipedia it'll be there just for people who are looking for it anyway. As far as history goes, you might want to take a look at the Lurker Lounge History page for a place to start. It's by no means complete, but it does give a rough outline of events. -Bolty It's time to Wiki the Lounge, yo. - Premezilla - 04-23-2006 I registered on Wikipedia today in order to get a sense of the uploading process. However, there's some technical mumbo-jumbo I'm having some difficulty deciphering. Here's a copy of what I'm looking at -------- Note: Your file will be deleted in one week unless you provide detailed information on both: The source of the file: If you made it yourself, say so. If the file is available online, include a link. Most images on the internet are copyrighted and are not appropriate for uploading to Wikipedia. The copyright holder and the license of the file, including: A copyrightcense tag, either selected from the drop-down list below or included in the upload summary, An explanation of why you believe the file is so licenced, and A fair use rationale, if uploading a fair use image. If you upload a file here to which you hold the copyright, you must license it under a free license or release it into the public domain. Users who upload content with false license declarations, or who repeatedly upload images with no license declaration, may be blocked. If you are uploading a file under a free license (not fair use!), consider uploading it to the Wikimedia Commons, a shared repository of content that can be used on all Wikimedia projects. Files can be uploaded to the Wikimedia Commons at the Wikimedia Commons upload page (you must be logged in to Wikimedia Commons to upload files). For more information, see our image use policy, how to upload, and the image copyright tags available. ------ To me, it looks like I only need to go through with the whole licensing process if I use images when writing the article. If I'm mistaken, could somebody let me know? Before I get entangled in a legal hullabaloo? Thanks. (By the way, Bolty, does this mean the whole Wikipedia article officially has your seal of approval?) 'Navel lint buggy rides!', he exclaimed. Then he thought, 'no, maybe just a website.' And thus, the Lurker Lounge was born, using a domain name purchased off a porn vendor..." -Bolty It's time to Wiki the Lounge, yo. - Occhidiangela - 04-24-2006 Bolty,Apr 24 2006, 07:18 AM Wrote:Wouldn't I have to see the article before I could approve it? *confused*Why Wikipedia Stinks to High Heaven Bolty, I thought that pron site was the Lurid Lounge, the old Network 54 hang out for leisure suit burlesque afficianados. Speaking of polyester, here's a Navel Lint tip from the Household Hints from Heloise: "If you save up all of your navel lint, you can have enough to stuff a small throw pillow in 7 to 8 months, so long as you avoid synthetic fiber clothing." Bolty, just in case you had a fashion inspiration just now, switching to Spandex in order to avoid navel lint might be a fashion error. Consult with your wife, she doubtless runs the fashion center of excellence in your house. *ducks* Occhi It's time to Wiki the Lounge, yo. - kandrathe - 04-25-2006 Occhidiangela,Apr 24 2006, 08:45 AM Wrote:...Why should it be any different in his house?
