New Emergency Patch - MongoJerry - 06-29-2006

There's a new patch to download. I'm at 4% and slowly climbing. Any news on what this is? It must be urgent to require a client download on a Wednesday.

The WoW forums are ablaze.

The expedited patch for softlock issues affecting some users at login and during battlegrounds has been released - it is going out in all regions today.

v1.11.1 Build 5462.

I think the timing is brilliant.... BRILLIANT!

Luckily I wasn't planning on playing tonight. It's pretty safe to say things are gonna be hosed for a while as the servers get hammered, then the login servers will be hammered. The wow site is already hammered.

Classic. The 1.11.1 patch will go down in WoW history as the worst timed patch released ever.

It's interesting that this patch is going out using the regular downloader rather than using the bittorrent client.

As a person who experienced these lockouts personally... I am glad that this patch came as soon as it did.

mirrors found from the WoW general forums:

apparently you can just D/L the files and put them in your WoW folder. I haven't verified any of these, since I'm still at work.

They pulled the patch out. It ruined all the servers and no one could download it in a reasonable amount of time.

They helped ruin our raid night (again) for a net gain of zero ...

Ditto. Raid wasn't totally ruined but that was an hour wasted just sitting and waiting for people to download a patch that created more problems than it solved.

New Emergency Patch - MongoJerry - 06-29-2006

We had everybody download it from a 3rd-party site and were up and running about 20 mins late. It wasn't so bad for us, but I still wonder why we have to resort to using 3rd-party sites to get patches.

Because Blizzard is still underestimating the popularity of their game. Living in a different reality, maybe:)
