A warning about keyloggers - bschultz - 09-07-2006 http://forums.worldofwarcraft.com/thread.h...=18001914&sid=1 I will quote it below Quote:Weâd like to make the community aware of a recent account-theft scam that is being circulated through email, game forums, in-game chat, and other mediums. This scam involves fake URLs, or hyperlinks, that once clicked will install harmful âkeyloggingâ software intended to steal your World of Warcraft account name and password. After the creators of these keyloggers steal this information, they log into your account, immediately change your password to lock you out, and then sell all of your items and transfer all of your gold. We need a post on lurkerlounge.com that tells people NOT to view Death and Taxes videos there are keyloggers in fake saphiron and KT videos. DnT did not put the loggers in the video. but others have. A lot of it is stupid people playing on unsecured computers, like at their friendâs houses. Before you ever consider even logging in on a friend's computer, you have to ask yourself how much about computers do they know. Are they smart enough ânot- to click on certain links, open certain files, or smart enough to have virus protection? If you've ever seen them give you a vacant stare when you try to explain something computer related to them, that is the type of person Iâm talking about. If that type of person plays WoW, they are quite likly to have thier account hacked within 6 months of playing the game. In most cases with me personally, the answer is yes, totally safe. But, there are a couple of people's computers I'd never trust my account on. If WoW must travel to one of their houses, use a laptop, save yourself grief. I'm not saying donât trust friends, just the non-competent ones. A warning about keyloggers - bschultz - 09-07-2006 #$%& sorry about the extra postings. I have no idea how that happened. And i cant seem to find a delete thread button No problem. Taken care of. Yeah, one of my guildmates just lost his account probably due to this. The main thing is to keep your system current as the exploit that was used was one that has already been patched. Firewalls and anti-virus scanners help. Plus, if you want to play extra safe, you can use Firefox instead of IE, because script kiddies are less likely to target it and because it's not built into and therefore doesn't have access to the system the way IE has. |
