Don't know if this is the right place to ask, - Sickywicky - 08-03-2003 Me and a friend of mine are planning to go on either Kendo or Iaido. Does anyone here practise one of these and can inform me about it a bit and maybe send url's where I can have a good look at the techniques ? I'd also like to know what would better complement my Aikido too, since Aikido is originated from 5 arts including "Ken-Jutsu". Feedback would be greatly appreciated, but the title says enough about my doubts posting it here. Don't know if this is the right place to ask, - Elric of Grans - 08-03-2003 Hail Stickywicky, I brought these up not long ago ;) I couldn't comment on Aikido, as I know diddly squat about it, but for your friend, tell him to check out the ZNKR: that's where you'll find the dojos that are qualified not to be dodgy. You can find their homepage here :) I know a few Kendoka (anyone know the plural of Kendoka?), and they all enjoy it; I personally would like to do Iaido, but cannot afford a sword. Don't know if this is the right place to ask, - LemmingofGlory - 08-04-2003 I personally would like to do Iaido, but cannot afford a sword. You mean they won't let you use your Silver Trout of Reprimand? Unthinkable! [o: *LEMMING* :o] Don't know if this is the right place to ask, - Destroy-Titus - 08-04-2003 I always wanted to go into Kendo, and here in Hawaii there are plenty of dojos that offer it, however, believe it or not, the majority of them will NOT allow "haoles" into their schools, I gave up the search soon after finding that out. I'm sure you can all figure out what "haole" stands for, and why here in HI, it would be a problem <_< . I'm sure later on I will find the right place to practice B) , keeping my hopes. Don't know if this is the right place to ask, - Elric of Grans - 08-04-2003 Hail Lemming, Sadly, trout are unsuited to Iaido: the lack of a saya, and the shape of the weapon, make it a poor choice. Trout is, without question, the best weapon for actual combat, so it would probably work find in Kendo, but sadly that does not help me :( Don't know if this is the right place to ask, - Sickywicky - 08-04-2003 Thanks for all the replies and the url you posted Elric, it's much appreciated. :) Too bad it isn't a bit like this one though http://www.ultimatejujitsu.com/ learned a lot of techniques from that site I especially like the arm-bar from mount. :) Quote:You mean they won't let you use your Silver Trout of Reprimand? Unthinkable! Hehehehe this reminds me of when my teacher was short in Tanto's and we used spoons and pencils as knives as well. I just found a site where they sell swords Elric, some aren't at all that expensive. Of course I can't look in your wallet but you might be interested :) http://www.superiormartialarts.com/cgi-bin...;&affiliate=888 Sidenote: I happened to find some pictures of my teacher when I was looking for the summer calendar here, http://www.aikido-world.com/photoshots/Wil...%20Vriesman.htm a piece of my life revealed. |
