Greatest guy flicks - --Pete - 08-30-2005 Hi, In no particular order, and only a partial list: Kill Bill 1 (but not 2) All the Bruce Lee films (and I wish he'd lived for fifty more) Rocky 1, 2, and 4 (3 and, especially 5 were, IMO, piss poor) Anything by Ahnold that does not involve twins, pregnancy, or kindergarten. And, yes, that includes that funny strongman piece where they dubbed his voice in falsetto :) Clint Eastwood spaghetti westerns (especially the' holy' trio) and all his Dirty Harry films. As well as a long list of his other work. Die Hard 1, 2 and 3. 13th Warrior Alien, Aliens, but not their sequels Matrix (wish the brothers had known when to stop) Apocalypse Now Big Red One Lethal Weapon Mad Max and Road Warrior, but Thunderdome was too artsy for me ffolkes Sean Connery as James Bond (the only Bond that half the guys in the audience didn't feel they could take on and *win*) Guns of Naverone Sink the Bismark The Longest Day A Bridge Too Far Thunder Road Cool Hand Luke The Great Escape The Hustler OK, starting to suffer from strained memory. And I think I left out all the 'everybody' and 'chick' flicks I've also enjoyed ;) --Pete Greatest guy flicks - Occhidiangela - 08-30-2005 DeeBye,Aug 26 2005, 11:54 PM Wrote:Guy films? Hmmm, since no one mentioned Debbie Does Dallas 2 and Taboo, and the old favorite Deep Throat, I will. Hey, those are films made expressly for guys. :P On a less sarcastic note, Tell the Spartans and 48 Hours are good guy films of different genres. Occhi Greatest guy flicks - jahcs - 08-30-2005 Most of the ones that have been mentioned plus: Desperado (guns, Salma Hayek, gratuitous use of guns, gratuitous use of Salma Hayek) Robocop The Rock Patton Bullitt The Outlaw Josey Wales Tombstone Heat (well, the end anyway. ;) ) Porky's Animal House Species wasn't too good but Natasha Henstridge... Reservoir Dogs Pulp Fiction Natural Born Killers (not the extended cut) The Crow Dark City ...Not sure if these movies fall more into the 'Cult Favorites' category. edit: PCU Greatest guy flicks - Doc - 08-30-2005 Hell YEAH anything with Steve McQueen. Greatest guy flicks - Doc - 08-30-2005 And Natural Born Killers is an awesome film. But only the fully uncut and unedited film the way it was meant to be shown, with the proper ending. Greatest guy flicks - Wyrm - 08-30-2005 A couple more I thought of that haven't been mentioned yet. Roadhouse Universal Soldier There's also the John Wayne movies like The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance, El Dorado, Rooster Cogburn, etc.. Greatest guy flicks - bigeyedbug - 08-30-2005 Blazing Saddles. Pretty much any Mel Brooks movie, actually. Well, out of the ones that are fit for human consumption at all. Boyz n the Hood. It's probably been mentioned already, but Blade Runner. Greatest guy flicks - jahcs - 08-30-2005 For some you-can't-take-it-seriously-campy-wholesale-slaughter action Starship Troopers fits the bill. You know if you see that sci-fi channel sign in the bottom right corner, it's bad. Now I'm not sayin Sin City was bad, about a 3.5/5 in my book, but definately not one of my favorites. It fits perfectly into the "guy" movie though. Nudity and so much blood it's sickening, who could ask for more? Some of your other selections probably aren't either but these are the ones I spotted at first glance - even allowing for some possible Father/son movies. I may need to take a quick trip to the video store... :) Greatest guy flicks - Doc - 08-30-2005 jahcs,Aug 30 2005, 05:54 PM Wrote:I realise you probably just included all your movies for completeness but Riding Miss Daisy was a good movie for a guys night out. Step aside from your inner connoisseur, and look deeply within for that slavering id driven monkey, send the womenfolk off to the stores, order a Meat-Lovers pizza, and crack open a brewskie. Film quality is secondary to the MAN fulfilling quest for lots of action, fight scenes and explosions, little dialogue (one liners are ok), car chases, while surrounded by pouty gorgeous vulnerable women. If your wife and/or girlfriend reads this board, then I understand your "position". ::wink:: ::wink:: P.S. It might also be guy movie conditioning, which begins at a very young age. I had to leave for work this morning, but I would have rather stayed home and finished watching GODZILLA VS MECHAGODZILLA with my son. |
