Ode to the Lost Golem - Nystul - 05-24-2004 Goofy mood tonight... Once there was an endless quest, An epic hero's plight. Save the child, kill the rest: A neverending fight. The mood was dark, the task was grim, Diablo set the tone. In tun, the hero killing him Inherits evil's throne. And so our story grew in scope, A black twist to our tale. New heroes rise with just one hope: Slay old hero and Baal. The heroes won, but a new war Between the storm gods raged Should Diablo walk once more Or be forever caged? A battle waged with ice and snow With terror and with pain. The aftermath on shores below Like wake of hurricane. So now the condor's lost its meat And circles its own grave. The flagship sails without its fleet To find another wave. Tristram's heroes all are gone To war against the Horde. And yet the riddles linger on Concerning the Dark Lord. Since Blizz will collect monthly fees From their new market spot, Our hope to see Diablo 3's As grim as the game's plot. That was fun. :D May I offer a musing related to one outcome of Tyrael's sword throwing moment? Note: This verse was found scrawled in ancient Khandaran glyphs on a stall in the fishmarket of Lut Gholein. The original author is unknown, although OcchiD'Merc assures me that Geglash has been heard to recite this when well into his cups. Ever since the fire that swept the Lut Gholein fishmarket, thanks to Sergeant Pygmy having accidentally dropped his torch into a barrel of whale oil while shopping for fresh carp, that stall is no more. The best reproduction of Geglash's version of the verse is herein set down here for posterity's sake. Yes, the game is rated M. Caveat Emptor If you don't care for ribaldry, stop now. Lavitro's Lament When Tyrael, Heaven's own rube With blade destroyed the Worldstone He purged the world of sundry magic Left one Necro a'lacking his spear of bone Played on him, who had cursed beast and demon Was a joke both poignant and ironic Midst a sea of hot zons, all randy and bored For bone spearing he needed a tonic Most gals did not care for his Golem Nor caresses from Skels in his loft A few bondage queens liked his Bone Prison But his finisher went south, most oft' While beguile and attract them he could Livitro brought forth no more wood So he'd sulk over wine at the Tavern Hiring lap dances from gals of Jehryn's harem Pariah with ladies, butt of men's jests He broodily stared at the Amazons' chests Near mad, thoughts of falling on his poison dagger Super Sunday, inspired, he arose with a stagger! "Eureka! That'll solve this cursed loss of bone!" He screamed at the flickering Tee Vee Standing up all at once, he spilled all his wine And the lap dancer from off of his knee The scene on the screen that Livitro espied Portrayed romance and bliss at Niagra Out the door, up the street, to Drognan he hied To buy the entire stock of Viagra As the fisherman steps his mast to sail home And the warrior raises his standard Livitro once more casts his spell, Spear of Bone Since that day, zons his iron have not slandered. All's well in his world, with his latest reviving Now he's pleased with the lay of the land But when even the zons find his passion to gauche There's his Golem, Revive, or right hand. ~Anonymous, the usual suspect~ Ode to the Lost Golem - Nystul - 03-10-2005 Kind of loose, shifting metering on this one, so it may be difficult to read as intended. Actually, it's intended to be sung in a minor key, but for now it's pretty functional as a poem. Going Home He's the prodigal son, who is now on the run. He's not having fun, so he wants it undone. He longs to go back to his shack in the woods; To go back to his roots, where he knows that he belongs. As he follows the river, he wallows in misery. He's sorry he'd hurried to leave his old home this early. He wonders if his parents are even alive still, Believing they've died will make him swear at his blunders. They say he left home to be the hero. To defeat evil, that's why he roamed. But while he roamed and tried to be the hero, We see that evil destroyed his home. As he nears town and stops, he peers, frowns, and sobs. It appears now that mobs, came here to tear down a lot. It seems that the people were either all dead, Or got feeble and fled, from the evil supreme. But still here are some merchants and seers, barworkers and Surgeons and warriors and mages reveal their urgent plan To form up a party, and get their revenge. They'd better be ready, or they'll harshly be torn up. They say he left home to be the hero. To defeat evil, that's why he roamed. But while he roamed and tried to be the hero, We see that evil destroyed his home. His parents had died, so he's sharing his might. Doesn't care 'bout his life. He's just raring to fight. He madly swings, hacking at packs of fierce foes. But the fact is he knows, this won't bring back his fam'ly. As vengence swirls through his mind, he pledges to the light To do right through this fight, but is it just his suicide? The bards will sing songs about his courage in war, But these verses ignore, that somethings wrong in his heart.
