"missing Inifuss post"
|
This morning I posted a bug with the Inifuss quest, and asked if anyone had seen the bug. Now I'm asking if anyone has seen my post? It was here a few hours ago. Is this a forum message bug? Jo

2. "Inifuss"

>...But what is Inifuss? Inifuss is some fool with a tree that Akara sent me off to find. I am a sorceress, just starting nightmare. I found the tree and noted that it had an aura of magic about it. A scroll dropped from the tree when I touched the bark. I had no room in inventory so I placed the scroll for safe keeping in my horadric cube. When I returned to Akara, she seemed pleased and told me she had translated the runes on the scroll, and that I was to go find the cairn stones and touch them in the order indicated. All well and good for her, but she never gave me back the scroll. It wasn't in my cube, it wasn't on the ground, and it wasn't back on the wretched tree. (Being a melee sorceress with a naga, I had thought to cut it down and burn it.) When I asked Akara about the quest, she chided me that I could never rescue Cain without finding the tree of Inifuss. She said it was the first step on my journey. Daft old woman. I did not think it would be polite or kind to kick her. Since there appeared to be no way to rescue Cain, I went on to Lut and found him there. He mumbled something about the rogues finally having freed him, but he then proceeded to try to charge 200 gold for telling me what my items were. Wonder how he'd like to be left out in the desert rather than in Tristram? Back at the rogue encampment Akara again told me to search for the stupid tree. Charsi at least mentioned that she liked my armor. Same armor that I've had on for thirty levels, not that she might notice. Charsi may be cute, but she's not all that bright. So far I've repeated this exercise in frustration twice (not counting writing up the bug report a second time). I expect that if I had the scroll in my inventory rather than in my cube, the quest would work. But if Akara has a problem with it in my cube, she should at least leave it there or tell me! |

Just to be clear, the tree does drop a new scroll everytime I create a new game. The problem is Akara takes the scroll and does not give it back. She must have a pile of them somewhere. I have not yet tried the cairn stones without the scroll, but I doubt they will be activated, since at that point the quest log shows that I no longer have the quest. In other words as if I had not found the tree in the first place. I think Akara, Inifuss, and Cain are having a good laugh.

In this case though, the quest is not completed. Akara tells me that it is, but if I at once talk to her again, she has forgotten all about it. Senile old woman. (I am fifty four, I know what it's like.)

If "mh" is "map hack", no, I am not using it. Akara tells me that she has translated the runes when she takes the scroll. I have not yet tried the experiment of then going to the cairn stones, as Ruvanal suggested. When I get to it I will report back with the results...assuming of course that the thread's still here.

I did the experiment of going to the stones as soon as Akara told me that the runes were translated. I don't have a cairn fetish, myself, but I touched them in every manner I could think of. Some fellow Rakanishu had a problem. No portal opened either. As an additional note, after I touched the cairn stones, I still had the quest -- but after I went to Lut to sell some stuff, the quest log told me the cairn quest could not be completed. After that Akara would not talk to me on the subject.

I don't have anything to say regarding your bug, but I too has noticed that the NPC's can see the items in my stash. I.e. when talking to Cain about the Jade Figurine in act three, he examined it, then told me to go to Meshif. Meshif went a step further and acctually TOOK the figurine from my stash, even though he was standing 30 yards away from it(Must have very long arms;)) and gave me the golden bird^.^
If I remember right, I also seem to recall that Cain can identify items in my stash, but that might just be me mistaken^^ Still, it seems these NPC's is getting a bit more nosy than what's good for them;) If I die before I wake, At least in Heaven I can skate. |

26. "well...not quite so"
In response to message #25

...at least not according to my experiments. Cain will identify items in the cube as long as the cube is in my inventory or in my stash. I tried leaving the cube out in the desert as well as dropping it in town. In each case the unidentified junk spilled out onto the ground. They just don't make cubes like they used to. Furthermore, when he deigned to identify the stuff, Cain still charged me 100 gold. The fink. Technically, I guess you're right, since if the cube is not in a stash or inventory, the unidentified items are no longer in it. Your assertion was misleading though. Although I'm sure quite well intentioned.
